Information & Next Steps on Proposed Updates to Ohio’s 2010 Standards for School Treasurers & School Business Managers

The Educator Standards Board’s Treasurer and Business Manager Subcommittee would like to thank OASBO members for their feedback on the proposed updates to Ohio’s 2010 Standards for School Treasurers and School Business Managers. The subcommittee received many emails, as well as 62 responses from the official public comment period in March 2023.
 
Since then, the subcommittee met in May and June to review and carefully consider each piece of feedback. They also reviewed content and text between the two standards documents to ensure alignment. Throughout both standards documents, the proposed update to strike and replace stakeholders has been removed.
 
Many members voiced concerns over proposed language on cyber security. The subcommittee took those concerns into consideration and opted to remove the proposed language, concluding that cyber security is a component of insurance coverage and risk management in general, and such level of proposed detail did not need to be included.
 
Other comments on the proposed updates included management versus supervision responsibilities, procurement types, extra and co-curricular support, skills development, etc. have been carefully considered and updated as needed.
 
Next Steps
We are asking members over the next several weeks (from June 27 – July 31) to provide comments and input. OASBO and the subcommittee want to ensure members have had the opportunity to do a final review and make final suggestions before the proposed updates go back to the ODE Educator Standards Board for a vote this fall.
