School Facility Support Staff Award

School facility support staff are responsible annually for cleaning and maintaining thousands of school buildings throughout the state of Ohio to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable space for educational learning.  The school facility support staff, such as facility supervisor, maintenance supervisor, custodial supervisor, head custodian and other administrative support staff, are vital to any successful school district operations. These individuals are responsible for paying attention to details, communicating with staff and other parties, ensuring facilities are safe, clean and comfortable for educational learning. We are providing five regional awards, recognizing one individual from each region for the Facility Support Staff Award.

  • Must be employed in the facilities department of an Ohio k-12 public school district to be nominated for this award.
  • Members of the OASBO Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees are not eligible for awards.

Selection Process/Criteria
Nominations for the award will be submitted using the School Facility Support Staff application form. The Foundation Board of Trustees will serve as the selection committee.

The selection criteria will be based on the individual’s achievements in service to their school system and/or their community.

Nominators should describe how the nominee has made significant contributions to the school district’s operations. Also, include any relevant information that the selection committee should consider, like awards the nominee has received, whether the nominee has mentored other individuals in the district, or any other leadership activities.

A minimum number of service years is not required to qualify for the award, but a nominee should have sufficient experience to allow the selection committee to evaluate the nominee's achievements.

Business Managers, Facility Directors, Operations Directors, etc., who have also been assigned custodial, facility, or maintenance responsibilities are not eligible for the School Facility Support Staff award.

Award and Scholarship Recipients
The Foundation will contribute of $500 to an eligible organization in the name of the award recipient to fund a scholarship for a graduating senior from a high school in the district that employs the award recipient.

The eligible organization or a selection committee determined by the eligible organization shall select the scholarship recipient. The eligible organization shall consider criteria (such as financial need, academic performance, or performance in a particular area) proposed by the award recipient.

The term “eligible organization” refers to a school district or charitable organization meeting criteria established by the Foundation and reflected in the “Organizations Eligible to Receive Foundation Grants for Scholarships” document attached hereto. An award winner may be asked to assist in identifying an eligible organization to receive the contribution and make the scholarship awards.

Each year, award winners will be honored at the OASBO Annual Conference.
