Londa Schwierking Treasurer Support Staff Award

Londa Schwierking was a retired Ohio treasurer and highly engaged long-time member of OASBO. Through her passion and selfless giving of her time to mentor school business officials, she has contributed to many school business official’s success. In honor of Londa’s service and her commitment to OASBO’s support staff professional development, we are providing five regional awards, recognizing one individual from each region for the Londa Schwierking Treasurer Support Staff Award.

School business officials in Ohio are responsible annually for billions of public dollars. The school district’s treasurer’s support staff, such as the assistant treasurer, accounts payable, payroll and other support staff, are vital to any successful school district operations. These individuals are responsible for paying attention to details, communicating with staff and other parties, and entering transactions in the school’s accounting system that form the supporting documentation for the school district’s financial reports. 
    
Eligibility

•    Any support staff employed in the treasurer’s office of an Ohio k-12 public school district is eligible to be nominated for this award.
•    Members of the OASBO Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees are not eligible for awards.

Selection Process/Criteria
Nominations for the award will be submitted using the Londa Schwierking Treasurer Support Staff Award application form. The Foundation Board of Trustees will serve as the selection committee. 

The selection criteria will be based on the individual’s achievements in service to the profession and school system. 
Nominators should describe how the nominee has made significant contributions to the school district’s operations. Also, include any relevant information that the selection committee should consider, like awards the nominee has received, whether the nominee has mentored other individuals in the district, or any other leadership activities. 

A minimum number of service years is not required to qualify for the award, but a nominee should have sufficient experience to allow the selection committee to evaluate the nominee's achievements.

Treasurer/CFO's who have also been assigned accounts payable and payroll duties management are not eligible for the Treasurer Support Staff award.

Award and Scholarship Recipient
The Foundation will make a contribution of $500 to an eligible organization in the name of the award recipient to fund a scholarship for a graduating senior from a high school in the district that employs the award recipient. 

The eligible organization or a selection committee determined by the eligible organization shall select the scholarship recipient. The eligible organization shall take into account criteria (such as financial need, academic performance, or performance in a particular area) proposed by the award recipient.

The term “eligible organization” refers to a school district or charitable organization meeting criteria established by the Foundation and reflected in the “Organizations Eligible to Receive Foundation Grants for Scholarships” document attached hereto. An award winner may be asked to assist in identifying an eligible organization to receive the contribution and make the scholarship awards.

Recognition
Each year, award winners will be honored at the OASBO Annual Conference.
