Columbus, OH (December 20, 2017) The Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) has named Greg Slemons the organization’s Chief Learning Officer, or CLO. A long-time OASBO member, Slemons served as the association's President during the 2004-05 membership year.

Slemons’ passion and commitment to school business has spanned more than 30-years, beginning in 1985 at Hubbard Exempted Village Schools. Since then he has served in Treasurer/CFO roles at Warren City Schools, Orange City Schools, Lowellville Local Schools, Boardman Local Schools, and most recently as CFO at Youngstown City Schools.

In 2005, Slemons took brief break from treasurer/CFO positions to serve as Vice President of Public Finance at Fifth Third Securities’ capital markets division and as Vice President Municipal Finance at RBC Capital Markets. In his roles at those companies, Greg worked closely with schools and local government agencies, helping them develop investment portfolios and secure low-cost borrowing. In 2010, he returned to school finance as a school Treasurer/CFO.

With a strong track record in school finance Slemons’ experience is highly respected, leading to his involvement in the profession on both the local and state levels as a presenter on various financial topics. He also has mentored many individuals as they worked toward achieving the 300 intern hours needed to obtain and Ohio treasurer’s license. In 2014, he was awarded OASBO’s Virginia Ramsey Service Award for his years of distinguished service to both the profession and organization.

As CLO, a new, full-time position at OASBO, Slemons will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop in-person and online leadership, business, and finance skill development curriculum for school business officials, aligned with the Ohio Department of Education's professional standards for school business officials and their licensure requirements. He will also administer the association’s mentoring program, and seeks grants to fund various educational programs.

“The OASBO Board of Directors believes that Greg's experience, passion, and dedication make him the best candidate to help lead our organization’s efforts to empower school business officials and advance the profession,” said Board President Ryan Ghizzoni, Treasurer/CFO at Berea City Schools. “We know the membership and larger school business community will join us in welcoming Greg into this new, important role.”
Slemons will begin his tenure on Jan. 15, 2018, leaving his role as CFO at Youngstown City Schools.
“I am honored and excited to join this exceptional team and look forward to working together to advance OASBO’s mission of empowering members by providing advocacy, collaboration, and innovative education,” said Slemons.
