Herbert D. Brum Scholarship

Dr. Brum served as the Executive Director of OASBO from April 1983 through January 1990.  This scholarship program encourages continuing professional education and is awarded to one goal-oriented school business official who is pursuing a degree in an accredited program or participating in non-degree program offered by a not-for-profit organization in the area of finance, budgeting, facilities, transportation, food service, shared services, technology, leadership or any combined business function.

Eligibility

  • Any Ohio school business official who applies for the award on the Brum Scholarship Award application form or who is nominated for the award using that application form.
  • Members of the OASBO Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees and members of their immediate families are not eligible for awards.

Selection Process/Criteria
The Foundation Board of Trustees will serve as the selection committee. The selection criteria will be based on the following:

  • Academic plans, including type of program under consideration;
  • Educational institution under consideration;
  • Specific courses under consideration; and
  • Educational goals.

Award
The Foundation will make a contribution of $1,000 toward the award winner’s cost of attending an accredited degree program or a non-degree program offered by a not-for-profit organization in the area of finance, budgeting, facilities, transportation, food service, shared services, technology, leadership or any combined business function. Checks will be payable to the school or program and not to the Awardee.

Awardee will be required to provide evidence of attendance and participation in the program or completion of an academic quarter (or longer applicable period) or refund to the Foundation the amount of the grant, absent extenuating circumstances for which the Foundation board provides a waiver.

Awardee will be required to provide a short report to the Foundation upon the completion of an academic quarter, trimester or semester or the completion of the program attended, describing the quality of the program and how it has enhanced the individual’s job performance.

Awards must be used for payments for academic terms or programs beginning after the date of the award and before the end of the thirtieth month following the month in which the award is granted, unless otherwise extended in writing by the Foundation Board of Trustees.

Recognition
